This page will provide parents and guardians with upcoming tests, important dates and homework. We will check our emails daily. Please keep in mind however the messages that you send us will not be read until after your child is dismissed. For example, if during the day a change in your schedule happens and someone else will be picking up your child, please do not inform us by email. We probably will not see the email before dismissal, so the best thing to do is call the school.

Kindergarten Week of June 11th

Thank you to everyone who joined us last week for career day. The children learned a about many different careers. It’s hard believe this is the last full week of school. Kindergarten’s graduation will be Tuesday June 19th at 8:45 in the gym. After, we will proceed to the church hall across the street for some refreshments. This will be their last day of school.
This week on Tuesday and Wednesday Mrs. Peiser will be having a book sale. She will be selling used books for 50 cents each. On Thursday the children will have field day. More information will be coming on this fun day for the children.
For Math this week, the children will know the count sequence when counting to 50 and 100 by ones and tens. Vocabulary words: fifty and one hundred.
In reading this week we will continue with our concept stormy weather. The essential question is “How can you stay safe in bad weather?” The main story this week is Waiting Out the Storm by Joann Early Macken and illustrated by Susan Gaber. We will listen to a read a loud called Rainbow Crow. The vocabulary words that we will be discussing are prepare, safe, enough, celebration, and notice. This week we will be reviewing the sounds for the letters R, B, and L.
This week we will focus on the short u sound. Some short u words are tub, bug, nut. When children see three to four letter words with short vowels sounds they should be able to recognize the word right away. On Friday, we will have show and tell. Please bring in an item that has the short u sound.
This week we will not learn any new sight words. Each child will be assessed on all the sight words we have learned, being able to recognize the capital and lowercase letter and the sound for each letter.
In Religion, the children will learn that Jesus was a teacher and a helper when he grew up. He taught many people and was kind, good, and caring.
On Monday we will have physical education. Tuesday, we will have music, art, and Espanol.

Kindergarten Week of June 4th

We have reached the last month of school. We have started to celebrate the children who have summer birthdays in the class. This Thursday is career day. We are looking forward to learning about what many of you do. This week Italian ices will be sold on Tuesday for $3.00. The money raised will support a special needs camp. Next week Mrs. Peiser will be having a gently used book sale on Tuesday and Wednesday. All books will be 50 cents.
For math this week, the children will learn to count, model, and write the number 20.
In reading this week our concept is, stormy weather. This week the five-spelling words will be 1) that 2) there 3) with 4) little 5) on. Please practice sight words daily. It will help your child to improve their reading.
This week in social studies, we will be talking about Flag Day. Every year Flag Day is celebrated on June 14th. We will learn how over the years how the flag has changed.
On Monday we will have physical education. Tuesday, we will have music, art, and Espanol. Wednesday, we will have library. It will be our last week of library. All books will need to be returned this week. If they are not, you will be charged for the book. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to read.

We hope you enjoyed the three-day weekend! Even though Sweden didn’t make it to the final World Cup game we still had a lot of fun. This Wednesday is the Art Show at school. It begins at 6:30, and you will have a chance to see your child’s art work created in class with Mrs. Waranis. The children and Mrs. Waranis have created one piece that will be auctioned off. Good luck to the future lucky winner. We have just about three weeks left of school. If you would like to add something to the graduation gift for each child in the class, please contact AJ’s mom. Please ask her before purchasing something so that each child does not receive duplicates. If you are planning on doing something on your own, please bring it to the Church Hall the morning of June 18th.
This week in Math we will review for our Chapter 7 Test which will be on Thursday.

The vocabulary words that we will be discussing are drought, temperature, clever, predict, and storm. We will listen to a read aloud called The Frog and the Locust. This week we will be working on the sound of the letter K.
This week we will focus on the short i sound. Some short i words are pig, lip, sit. When children see three to four letter words with short vowels sounds they should be able to recognize the word right away. On Friday, we will have show and tell. Please bring in an item that has the short i sound.
Our sight words for the week are “saw” and “they.” Please ensure that you are reviewing these words at home daily with your child. This week on Friday, the children will have a spelling test. This week the five-spelling word will be 1) saw 2) they 3) it 4) not 5) do. Please practice sight words daily. It will help your child to improve their reading.
In Religion this week, the children will learn that Jesus grew up in a town called Nazareth. They will also learn that He grew up in a special family. This family (Jesus, Mary, and Joseph) are called the Holy Family.
On Monday we will have physical education. Tuesday, we will have music, art, and Espanol. Wednesday, we will have library.

Kindergarte Newsletter Week of May 21st

Last week we let our butterflies go. Tuesday is the World Cup. Please make sure you have sent in a permission slip. We will give the children snack on Tuesday. Let’s hope for nice weather. Friday is a half day with an 11:30 dismissal. Monday is Memorial Day, so we don’t have school.
If you would like to add something to the graduation gift for each child in the class, please contact AJ’s mom. Please ask her before purchasing something so that each child does not receive duplicates. The last scholastic reading order for this year is due by May 25th. This is a great opportunity to order summer reading books for your child.
In math, this week the children will work on using objects to represent the numbers 18 and 19. Chapter 7 Test will be on Thursday, May 31st.

A few weeks ago, we started to learn about community helpers. We have already discussed a teacher and mail carrier. This week we will learn about a police officer and a firefighter. Our career day is scheduled for June 7th.
This week in Religion, the children will learn that God the Father gives us the gift of His Son.
