Welcome to Ms. Johnson’s Nursery Class Page!

Barbara Johnson has been teaching at Sacred Heart Catholic Academy for 4 years.  Before becoming part of the Faculty here at Sacred Heart as the Nursery teacher, Ms. Johnson was a substitute teacher at the Academy for 2.5 years.  Within those two and half years, she had the opportunity to be the leave replacement teacher for a 1st grade classroom and a 2nd grade classroom, as well as sub 1st -5th grade classes.  Nursery is by far Ms. Johnson’s favorite grade level to teach and she is so honored and excited to be your child’s first teacher!

For the past 9 years, Ms. Johnson has been volunteering her Saturday mornings to teach 2nd grade Religious Education here at Sacred Heart Catholic Academy.  Not only does she teach the 2nd grade religion curriculum, but she prepares her students to make their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion as well.  Ms. Johnson also has been directing the Christmas Pageant for CCD at the Academy for the past 6 years.  In her free time she likes to:  go bowling, play bingo, go to Broadway shows and wedding plan with her fiance for their upcoming wedding in 2019.

As a former graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic Academy (Nursery-8th grade student), she continued being the product of a Catholic education by attending St. Agnes Academic High School and the College of Mount Saint Vincent.  She double majored in Psychology and Early Childhood/Elementary Education.  Ms. Johnson is thrilled to be back where her roots in education began!  It is her goal to instill in your children the same love of learning and the same passion for the strong Catholic values she received as a student here at Sacred Heart!

Newsletter of the Week- March 19, 2018

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

I hope you all had a great weekend.  Just a reminder, this Thursday March 22nd, is a HALF DAY (11:10am Dismissal for report cards/parent teacher conferences).  On half days, you still pack your child a snack/drink.  All progress reports will be given back Thursday/Friday.  For those speaking to me on Thursday I will hand your child’s progress report to you during the conference.   It will not take more than a minute to read.  If you have not signed up, Progress reports will be put in your child’s folder.  Please keep to the time you signed up for.  If the parent before you is still in the classroom with me, I ask if you can please be patient and know that I will be with you shortly/have my undivided attention.  If you signed up to be called at a certain time my number will come up as a “restricted” number.  Please pick up.  I apologize in advance if the call is delayed by 5 or 10 mins (depends on the conference before you).  Please be flexible by 10 mins.  Next Wednesday, March 28th is our Easter Celebration!  It is also a HALF DAY (11:10am Dismissal).  Please refer back to last weeks letter for all the details.  Will Emilie, Liliana and Henry D.T. be coming?  Please let me know.  If your child won’t be coming for whatever reason, please let me know as well so I can plan accordingly.  There will be NO afterschool  offered on Wednesday March 28th.  Easter Break is from March 29- April 8.  School will resume April 9th.

The Letter of the Week is the letter “Q”.  The children will be Do-A-Dotting a “Q” template as well as make a Quilt (Q for Quilt).  The new Shape of the Week is “Oval”.  The children will learn a poem about an oval “Opal the Oval”.  During center time I will read to the children Humpty Dumpty so that the children can see a character that is an oval shape.  The Book of the Week is What is Easter? by Lillie James and  Ed’s Egg by David Bedford.  The Religion Chapter we will be discussing this week is Lesson 23:  Easter.  We will also begin to learn Lent/Easter Theme songs and the children will continue with their Easter projects.  Gym Wednesday=sneakers.

For Show and Tell (Thursday/Friday) we will continue to learn about each other’s Heritage.  Being last week we had a quite a few absences, a Circus to attend, a scavenger hunt for gold for St. Patrick’s day etc. if your child did not go yet or missed the day I assigned them last week, they may go on the day they usually bring in their Show and Tell item this week.

Ms. Johnson
