Principal Cooke’s Weekly Letter

November 13, 2018
It is so hard for me to believe that Thanksgiving is just over a week away! Where has the time gone?
There is so much to tell you so I better get started…..
I hope you enjoyed your day off yesterday, but I also hope that you took time to remember why we were off. November 11, 2018 marked the 100 year anniversary of the armistice of World War 1. In the years since November 11, 1918 our nation has been involved in several wars and conflicts throughout the world. Our prayer should be in thanksgiving for those selfless men and women who put their life on hold to protect the freedoms that you and I enjoy and our prayer should be for Peace. To quote John Lennon, “give peace a chance”.
Mrs. Draper has been very busy these past few days. Last Thursday the wrapping paper portion of the Prestige order came in and today the cookie dough/cheesecake orders came in. These came in just in time for Thanksgiving, and the “foul weather” that we are expecting at the end of the week. Those cookies will make a delicious snack for after school on Friday when the weather is cold and damp.
There are some big changes in our junior high. We are replacing the Smartboards with LED HD HDMI to HDMI TV’S complete with a sound bar. The other day, Mr. Frawley showed a clip from The Last of the Mohicans, and you would have thought the battle was taking place right then and there! We are very excited about this technology upgrade.
Today a flyer went home about our first “proceeds night” taking place tomorrow night at Patsy’s in Whitestone. The Devine family is very generous to donate 20% of your eat in or take out order to the school. Please consider dinner at Patsy’s (you cannot go wrong with the eggplant appetizer) tomorrow, every little bit helps.
Each year our school participates in an Adopt a family program, this year is no different . We will be selling a dress down on Friday, November 16th for $3.00 or more to make Christmas magical for a family in need. Please be as generous as you can. Father has not yet given us the details on the family that we are adopting, I will know more by next week.
Thank you to the Nadan family for all their work on the Box Top Drive. Congrats to first grade, Mrs. Reeves for winning the dress down for the month of October. Keep getting those box tops in, there are incentives for your children. Remember “every clip counts”.
Wednesday, November 21 is a HALF DAY OF SCHOOL WITH AN 11:30 DISMISS. We will be going to the 9am Mass as a school to give thanks for all the blessing that God has bestowed upon us. Please try to celebrate with us.
We are currently taking enrollment for our Kindergarten for next year. You are our best advertisement. Prayerfully consider referring a neighbor or friend to our school. Ur $500.00 referral incentive is still in place for both you and the family that you refer.
Our Thanksgiving Food Drive ends on Thursday. If you have not yet sent in non perishable items, there is still time to do so. If you have earned a coupon for a free turkey or ham and you are NOT going to use that coupon, please consider donating that as well. I can assure you that it will go to good use.
Our Breakfast with Santa is on Saturday December 1, and that is right around the corner. This is a wonderful family friendly event, please get your ticket in advance so that the committee can have an idea of what they need. Kiddies, have those lists ready as there will be a visit from the big guy in the red suit who is just waiting to hear what you want for Christmas.
If you remember, at the end of last year and over the summer we had the honor of having a Seminarian here at Sacred Heart, Alex. Well, Alex took the next step to becoming a priest, he was ordained a Deacon on November 3 and will be assigned to our Parish for weekend Masses. What a blessing for us and for our Parish.
Our second graders received the Sacrament of Penance for the first time on November 3. 29 children received the Sacrament that day. We had the honor of having Father Tom Brosnan return for the Sacrament, as Msgr. Tom was at the ordination of Deacon Alex.

Have a wonderful week.
