Principal’s Letter February

Dear Parents and Guardians,

 

This year , as always, Catholic Schools Week was great. Everybody had at least one activity. Each class had the opportunity to participate in one STEAM project. The Junior High participated in an hour of code. 4th ,5th and 6th grades had a BUNCEE workshop.( We will be purchasing licenses). PreK and up had a Mad Science experience with Fire and Ice. We also had various “food tasting” opportunities. Ice cream sundaes and Tacos, with a treat from Monsignor Machalski thrown in for good measure. Teacher Appreciation was also well received.

 

 

 

 

 

Enrollment has begun and you should all have received your re- enrollment forms by now. We will be offering a 5% discount to those families who pay in full until June 22nd. Futures in Education is also open. Many of our families take advantage of this resource to reduce their tuition. Families who qualify, may see a substantial reduction in tuition per child. There are many grants that may be available to you. Please take a chance and apply.

 

As you know, we have been very busy working on Strategic Planning. Our goals, based on parent input at two meetings, have been sent in and on Saturday, February 15th, we will be meeting with Brother Ralph and Mrs. Simpson to discuss the goals and how we will achieve them. I will be contacting the parents who attended, tomorrow to share our goals with them. 

The Strategic Planning process will continue until it is finalized in June. 

 

We have a small fundraiser going on right now. The Boon Supply company sells recycled bags and assorted odds and ends. We are currently selling their Spring Collection. This is an opportunity to reach out to friends and family. In March we will all have to bring our own bags to do any kind of shopping. Let’s be proactive and get ahead of the game! The Development Committee is putting together a Spring Gala as our largest fundraiser. You probably know that we are honoring Mr. Farrell, former Principal,  as the first inductee to the Sacred Heart Hall of Fame. The Teacher of the Year will be Mrs. Reeves and the Founder’s Award will go to the Sisters of Mercy. The date is April 24th and it will be held at Floral Terrace at 7:30. More detailed information will be going out shortly. 

 

We will be starting an early morning Kindergarten Readiness program after the winter break. I think it will be a great beginning for our four year olds. Reading Readiness and Number Sense are key to a successful academic start. The sign up form is attached to this email. 

 

Our Camp flyers are featured around the school. We had hoped to have Ms. McGarry continue her great work on the camp. Unfortunately, she informed us that she will not be able to run the camp this year. Ms. Casquarelli has volunteered to run the camp during the summer. She is our Junior High Science teacher and is very excited to do so. If you are interested in our camp please email us at Camp@sacredheartbayside.org . This year you will have the option of paying with Venmo, check or cash. The sign up forms will be out this week and there will be access to them on the school website. We will also be adding after care to the camp this year. Mrs. Porcelli and Mrs. Romanello will be watching children until 6 pm after the camp is over. Fees will be the same as this school year.  

 

Sacred Heart is looking for Altar Servers from grades 4 – 8. If your child is interested in becoming an Altar server please fill out the attached form and send it in. Father Alex or Monsignor Machalski will be contacting you.

 

Lent will be here soon. I am attaching the Lenten schedule for Sacred Heart Parish. We will be attending Mass on Ash Wednesday as a school. All are invited to attend, The school and Parish will be marching in the Bayside St. Patrick;s Day parade, the form is also attached to this email.
