What’s Happening in December and January?

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope your family is enjoying this season of Advent. At school we are lighting the Advent wreath in the expectation that Jesus will soon be here. Monday we are off because of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of obligation.

As you know, last month the children from grades 1 – 8 took the iReady diagnostic. We are using this as a starting point to determine where our children are and how we can grow as a school, academically.  We will also be using the Terra Novas for this. The iReady diagnostic also has an instructional component that will allow us to directly impact classroom instruction at each child’s level. I am very excited to use this as a piece of our instruction.  The Terra Nova Scores have just arrived. Unfortunately we did not have them for report cards. I am hoping to

On December 18th at 7:00 pm we will be having a Christmas Concert with the Nativity play. Grade K – 8 will be involved in the performances. Christmas concerts really allow us to feel that it is Christmas time. Miss Jessica has worked very hard to put this performance together and I am sure that your families will enjoy this experience.

Breakfast with Santa  was a great success. Over 200 people attended. Thank you to the Kindergarten Parents and the rest of the school parents who did such a wonderful job and shared their talents.

You can see that we have received some rather large equipment that is currently outside the school on 216th Street and in the Parish rectory.  These are the parts for the playground and basketball hoops that will be installed shortly. I can’t wait to see our children playing on them. Hopefully the weather will be milder and the construction can start. I think we will all be amazed when it is done. The new playground will not interfere with the areas the children currently use for recess and the basketball hoops will enhance the recess experience for all the students. They will be placed in the playground area on 217th.

Catholic Schools Week is at the end of January and we will be informing you of the great activities that the students will be participating in. It will be starting on Sunday, January 26. As usual Sacred Heart will host an Open House after 9:30 Mass at the church, with breakfast in the cafeteria. Please be on the lookout for more information about the activities that the children will be engaging in.

I wish you and your family a very Blessed Merry Christmas.
